This 1 in 8 Challenge Virtual Race runs throughout November to celebrate International Men's Day and help raise funds to help fight prostate cancer. It is an 8 mile run, walk, cycle or TRI. The distance can be completed in one session or split across multiple.
Please note you are paying to enter the Virtual Race. The medal is a reward for completing the challenge and submitting evidence by the deadline date.
Vicky and Sam (chief challenge creators at Virtual Racing UK) were shocked recently to learn that in the UK, about 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer at some point in their lives.
We then just knew we had to create a challenge specifically to support the research of treatments into this disease and to support those affected. So we set out to find a charity that we could support and design a super duper medal for entrants.
But when to host the challenge??? well....
Did you know November 19th 2018 is International Men's Day?
Objectives of International Men's Day include a focus on men's and boy's health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models.
Well as you may well remember, back in March, here at Virtual Racing UK, we celebrated International Women's Day with a challenge and it seems only FAIR and FITTING that this November we will celebrate International Men's Day with this challenge, and support the amazing charity, Project Prostate.
And of course, as the terrible disease affects 1 in 8 men, we had to make it an 8 mile challenge.
All you need to do is sign up to the Virtual Race.
As usual 20% of every entry fee goes to our nominated charity - Project Prostate
The Prostate Project is a registered, Guildford-based charity established in 1998. We are volunteer-led with no offices or paid staff. Our administration costs are less than 5%. At least 95 pence in every pound you donate to us goes straight to the point of need.
Over the last 18 years we have raised over £8 million.
We are dedicated to raising greater awareness of prostate cancer, improving treatment and care for patients and providing support for patients’ families and friends.
In 2011, the Royal Surrey asked us if we could raise £1.3 million towards a new Urology Centre. In 2013, they increased that figure to £2 million. Thanks to incredible support and generosity, mostly from the people of Guildford and surrounding areas, we have hit that target and are now fundraising to ensure the new Centre has the equipment and infrastructure to deliver a truly world-class service.
We will always be grateful to the thousands of generous supporters who have made this wonderful new Centre a reality.
