Chelsea's Angels was set up in 2010, 6 months after my cousin, Emma lost her little girl to cancer, age 3.
We set up the charity to help other children fighting cancer. Chelsea had seen lots of other children on the ward and was aware some had gone to heaven. She asked her mummy, can we help all the other poorly children.
The charity over the past 10 years has supported families by gifting presents, organising small breaks away, paying household bills, or mortgages, replacing broken household appliances, funding medical treatments the NHS don't find, ie homeopathic treatments, reiki was very helpful to Chelsea, funds to support families going abroad for treatment.
Anything really that truly helps the families cope, creating smiles, making memories and offering support. However, due to the pandemic we haven't been able to raise the amount of funds needed to sustain giving that support.
So rather than having to shut down we adapted and built upon our care packs we deliver to the hospital and Christmas Eve boxes we send out by creating a Happiness Box full of lots of fun items to offer distraction, alleviate boredom and offer support. Each box would cost appx £100 as it also includes a £50 voucher of their choice. There is the box itself which we're still working on costs and postage to cover. But this is our way of still offering support but at a far lesser cost.
We are based in Wellingborough and Irthlingborough and support families all over the UK, aged 0-18 years old. We support siblings in the same way as they travel this horrendous journey too, often watching from the sidelines, just as Chelsea's sister did and we support siblings of angels too.
